Note to Self: I Have TWO Kids, Not Just One...

I’ve done this twice now, in as many months.

Every second of every day, I am concentrated on TWO…but somehow…when it has come to school functions…I’ve almost forgotten half of my brood.

I guess it stems from having so many “twin” friends.  Up until the girls started preschool, our social interaction was with other sets of twins.  It was perfectly acceptable…particularly with such young kiddos…to address an invitation to “Thing 1 and Thing 2” – together – or to buy a larger gift that could be enjoyed by both siblings.

As the girls are a little older now, I’ve become more conscious of setting them apart from each other, trying to treat them as much like individuals as possible.  At least on school days, I rarely dress them alike, and they each choose their own hairstyle.

Why, then, did I ALMOST slip up and make only one set of Valentine’s Day cards for the girls’ classmates???

I would not have appreciated them having to share Valentine’s Day cards, but it occurred to me – relatively late in the game – that they each needed a set to hand out.

Thank goodness I realized this on time…and you would have thought I learned my lesson.

Fast forward a few weeks to Easter, and the preschool has asked the parents to send 12 filled eggs for the class Easter egg hunt.

I went to the store…bought 12 eggs…and decided on the filling.

I was musing to myself, thinking how that seemed like a lot…each kid coming home with 12 EGGS!

Hmmm…but…for that math to work out…I’d need to send 12 eggs for EACH CHILD.

I made a return trip to the store, bought more eggs and more goodies…crisis averted…again.

Maybe one day I’ll internalize the whole TWO KIDS “thing” for good.

I have TOTALLY done this exact same thing! Last year, I had to run out and buy more Valentines because I miscounted...or forgot about one child, whichever the case may be. : )

Yes, I have done this too!!! Caught myself just in time! Even when we it is our turn to bring snacks to school, I realized I needed to "double" what we were bringing!!

ha...that's ok - Last Friday, I took both boys out to dinner and bowling with some of J's friends. At the end of the night, when I went to pay, I said I had to pay for 2 shoes and 2 games (Jacob and I....). The gal at the counter was adding up how many games/shoes we'd all paid for and her #s weren't matching - she had one more unaccounted for. It wasn't until then that it dawned on me that I needed to pay for THREE of us...that Adam was with us, too! (he wasn't standing with me - he was running around at that moment...ha!) She promised she wouldn't tell him I forgot about him - ha!
