A Bit About Me, November Edition

My birthday is February 23. On the 23rd of each month, I've taken to posting a couple of random bits of information about me. So for the month of November, here 'goes...

7) (In honor of the holiday season that is now upon us…) I can bake a mean cookie. When I was growing up, I worked weekends and summers in a little bakery that was owned by friends of our family. I waitressed during lunch, and I was known far and wide (relative to our tiny town) for my cookie making abilities. The work was hot and the hours were sometimes long, but I learned a lot about the value of a dollar. I also think it helped me learn to respect people from all walks of life. And I learned some basic cake-decorating skills, so I’m gonna be one mean mama when it comes to bake sales in a few years.

8) I’m not a movie person. When I was in high school, and through part of college, I went to the movies a lot…date night! And I would hate to know, in today’s dollars, what I spent on VHS rentals over the course of my growing up. Over the past 10 years, though, I’ve probably watched fewer than 10 movies. I think it’s a commitment issue. I have no problem vegetating in front of the TV to watch a 3 ½-hour ballgame (after the girlies are in bed, of course), but to plan to sit down and be attentive for two hours? Can’t do it. I know I’ll need to figure this one out if my visions of family movie night are to come to fruition in the next couple of years!

To check out past randomness...

I'm with you! I can't commit to movies, books, or TV for that matter. I just can't pull myself away to do something mindless. I can however, waste endless hours online.... I guess it all balances out!

I have a hard time sitting down for a planned movie as well. But if one comes on tv, I can sit and watch for hours. We have Netflix, and since the girls outgrew the tiny stage (where we could sit and watch a movie while holding them), we keep the DVD for months before watching it! It was a big money-waster, I guess, but now I take advantage of the online streaming tv/movies, so we kept subscribing.

Oh, you made me miss that bakery so much! What was the name of it? Ugh, that is bugging me now. But yes, they had the best lunches and pastries. I miss the Tolberts now too. What a fun post to read to take me back to my childhood days again. Thanks, Mandy!

lol. we have watched very few movies in the past several years. we've switched to TV shows. we just get them from netflix or tivo them and watch a half hour at a time.

....and then there's football season when the tv is on nonstop! :)

I've noticed I get bored with movies very easily. It's one thing to go to a theater... but to sit on the couch and watch a movie? I'm easily distracted.

Movies at home are tough for me too. I get sidetracked! We love to try and get to the theater every once in a while though.

Movie have been tough to enjoy ever since the kiddos were born. There just don't seem to be many good one out there anymore, or maybe it's just that I'm more critical now that I have so little free time. I hate wasting time watching something that's not the least bit entertaining. However, I find I'm rarely disappointed with the Masterpiece Theatre mysteries. I LOVE those!
