I wrote a post last week entitled, “It’s Fleeting”, detailing a couple of every day moments that encapsulate pure joy…ones I want to savor…ones I know won’t last forever…ones I hope I never forget.
My life is full of those amazing moments, and I’m trying to appreciate them…capture them…commit them to memory with all my senses.
But.
Not every moment is one I want to savor. There are some moments…some days…some phases…that don’t exactly encapsulate pure joy.
And that’s OK.
That’s part of it, too.
When the girls erupt in tears, which then escalate to screams, one feeding off the other, because I cut a bruise out of their banana…
When they refuse to settle down for a nap, even though they’re tired, and I know what kind of afternoon that will likely make…
When I can’t so much as slip out of their sight for two minutes to use the bathroom…
When someone dumps an entire cup of water out of the bathtub…
When Baby B can’t keep her fingers out of her nose, and Baby A has started putting her fingers in her mouth again…
I try to remind myself…it’s fleeting.
I have happy, healthy babies, and they’ll outgrow the propensity for bruised-banana-induced fits…the nap struggle won’t last forever…one day they won’t want to shadow their mama’s every move…and they’ll eventually recognize that picking your nose is kinda gross.
And in the meantime, I remind myself of those wanna-bang-my-head-against-the-wall, please-can-Mommy-have-a-timeout moments…this, too, shall pass. Thank goodness.

Thank goodness, indeed!
Great post, Mandy! Honest and real. We don't have to say that we love EVERY MOMENT of parenting to say that we love being a parent :)
I love this post!
We never see these scenes and it's so good to know you're normal!
I'm kidding :) kind of
Oh, when you figure out how to stop Baby A sticking her fingers in her mouth, please tell me. I have a boy who knows it freaks me out and he delights in doing it just to see my reaction LOL
PS I almost wanted to write LMAO like Ginger :)
Thanks for the reminder. I was having one of those moments as I tried to coax Em and Drew up the stairs tonight--one raced to the top while the other danced on my nerves as she dawdled dangerously at the bottom.
Ahhh...the good with the bad!

Yes, this too shall pass, right? ;-) Oh...the water dumped on the floor during bath time is a pet peeve of mine, too! I fear our bathroom floor will just rot out one day and the tub will fall right through! ha!
My walls have dents b/c of all of the head banging! I hate the water out of the tub, but someday I'll miss it!
