A Little Bit of Frostbite Won't Hurt, Right???

RELAX! I’m talking about me, not the girls!

No, before I take the girls outside, I meticulously dress them…

…undershirts, shirts, pants, socks, jackets, and shoes…

…and I hope by the end of it all that no one has pooped their pants, lest we have to rinse and repeat.

Then I load the girls into the waiting car, one at a time, hoping in the meantime that no one has decided to speed-strip, undoing part or all of mommy’s hard work.

And then when we get where we’re going, where we’ll have to actually brave the elements, another couple of layers come on…

…hoods or hats, and in extreme conditions, mittens.

Then it’s time to wrangle my marshmallow-fluffy babies into their stroller, one that surely wasn’t designed for all the extra garb they’re sporting.

And then, when we make it into the grocery store, I take off a couple of outer layers…at least their mittens and hats, and unzip their jackets.

Whew!!!

Yeah, after going through that exercise a time or two, it’s no wonder my winter coats only see a fraction of the action they did before the girlies were born. Part of that, of course, is that I only go outside a fraction of the time I once did (!!!), but an even bigger part is that I just can’t manage it all…

…I just can’t manage to bundle the girls in all their marshmallow-y glory AND juggle my own boots, coat, and scarf.

If you see me out and about with the girls on a cold winter’s day, I am usually sporting a light jacket and slip-on shoes. If it’s really cold I might add a scarf, one that I can leave fashionably (or so I tell myself) tied around my neck while we shop.

I rationalize that I’ll just walk fast so it won’t hurt too much…

…and besides, with all my kiddo-wrangling, I usually end up sweating, anyway!

Nothing is worse that multiple layers of clothing - you do end up sweating. Wishing for warmer weather soon!

haha. we're the same way!! although the kids lately tell us when we're missing our hats. it's like they feel that they shouldn't have to wear them if we're not!

i tried to comment on previous posts, but blogger wasn't having it! :(

Haha. This is so spot on! Typically my girls will be dressed to the nines, while I look like I just stepped out of bed. Even if I do have enough time to get myself ready (rare), I'm usually too exhausted!

We have some place to be by 9 or 9:30am four days a week, so I've gotten much better at getting us into all the winter gear this year. Still, it takes a good 10 minutes or so to get us all ready to walk out the door. The kids can now put on their own boots, but that also means their resistant to me doing it for them. Sometimes that can be a problem if we really need to go NOW and they're not ready to put their boots on. Ugh!

In our music class, there's a rhyme with the lines, "Slushy, mushy cold and wet. Snow suits and boots is it over yet?" Those words run through my head every time we need to go out. Oh, spring? Where are you, spring?

I can relate to that one! I don't know how many times recently I've told the older two to hurry up and get in their car seats b/c I don't have a coat and I'm cold...and they scold me for not having a coat. yeah..good example, huh? ha!

Sadly here...with the below freezing temps we've had - 35 degrees feels like a Heat Wave and I can ditch the coat for running in and out.

I hate wearing coats, especially in the car....which usually works out since I'm sweating by the time I wrestle both girls out the door and into their carseats! : ) And an upside to having little ones: I always pre-heat the car before we leave, so I really don't need my coat at all.

I think you can almost always spot mom's of twins by their lack of coats or long sleeves. It's just to hot to get everything you need to get done while wearing all thoes layers. :0 As long as the kids are warm and comfy mom is happy. Even if she did forget her own socks. :)

I doubt my children would see the light of day if we had to endure all that dressing before we went. Can you imagine it four times over? I would be lucky to get past my underwear! Hats off Mummy!

Me too...a sweaty mess! Every now and then, if the temperature is in the upper 30s (which we haven't see for quiet a while), I'll ease up on hats and mittens...it's just too much!
