A Bit About Me

My birthday is on February 23. While I keep this blog primarily focused on the girls, I decided on the 23rd of each month, I’m going to devote a post to me. I’m going to share two or three random things about me, and I hope it will be fun (and not too scary!) to look back after a year and see what kind of picture these random things paint.

So here goes…

1) I studied Russian language in college. While I can’t say I’ve put my studies to very good use, I will always be grateful to my parents for allowing me to follow my passion. I had some wonderful life experiences, including the opportunity to study in Russia my junior year of college. Among many other gifts, I have a wonderful Russian “family” whom I hope to introduce my girls to one day.

2) I love measuring spoons. I have several cheap-o plastic sets, but my favorites fall on opposite ends of the spectrum. A few years ago my dad asked what I wanted for Christmas. I told him I wanted a really nice set of measuring spoons from Williams-Sonoma. That’s one of those frivolous purchases I wouldn’t make for myself (as the plastic spoons serve their purpose just fine), but oh! how I love them!!! They’re really heavy, and the imprinted font on each spoon seems so regal. I feel like I should be on a cooking show when I use them. :)

And on the other end of the spectrum, I have my mom’s aluminum measuring spoons. I would imagine they’re a solid 40 years old. They look pretty rough, but heaven knows they’ve been used a gazillion times. That’s one of those items I would grab on my way out of a burning house, for sure.

So there you have it…random, I told you!

Measuring spoons? Random, indeed. I kinda like them too though (now that you mention it). I love that they make you feel like you are on a TV show. Do you do commentary as you cook?

I'm lucky if I can ever find my measuring spoons because the kids seem to hide them in random places. To say they're obsessed with measuring spoons is seriously downplaying it!

I bet the spoons from Williams-Sonoma are super nice!!!!! Martha Stewart would be jealous of you!!

What a neat idea! I will look forward to your posts on the 23rd of each month to get to know you more. I love the 2 things you shared today. The first is something only a few have experienced. How lucky you are to be one. The second is something I would have never thought to share, but it makes sense to me. It shows that you make do with what you have, but always like the finer things in life. It also tell me you are a sentimental person. I kindof already got that one from other posts. Thanks for sharing! Have a great week!

I love it! My birthday is October 23! Maybe we should make the 23 officially "Mommy Day".

My daughters received a set of real measuring spoons for their play kitchen. The spoons were so much nicer than my measuring spoons that I confiscated them. Shhh! Don't tell.

oh gosh, I also love measuring spoons. I feel like Nigella when I measure things properly anyway :)

And yes, I do pretend I'm on a cooking show!

My sister's bday is 22 Feb

I love measuring spoons too. I won't even use my Williams Sonoma measuring spoons because they look so pretty hanging on the wall with the pots and pans!

I will admit that you inspired my post today, sharing random things!
