Growing up, I remember my mom making big breakfasts on the weekends.
One of the combinations that sticks in my mind is her homemade biscuits, homemade pear preserves, and smoked sausage. It makes my mouth water to think about those the thick, syrupy preserves contrasted against the salty, smoky sausage.
When I spent the night with one grandmother, I remember her always making pancakes or cinnamon rolls, which I would enjoy along with the Sunday Funnies.
My great aunt always made the best scrambled eggs with cheese – lots of cheese – and bacon.
And my other grandmother always had powdered sugar donuts and chocolate milk, just for me.
I am so excited that the girls are finally old enough to begin to enjoy big weekend breakfasts. Pancakes and French toast are in regular Sunday rotation at our house.
I just love cooking breakfast at leisure, while hubby plays with the girls. And how nice it is to sit down to a big yummy breakfast…one that reminds me of my childhood…and know that the Big Family Breakfast Tradition continues.

This post brought back so many memories for me. My Stepdad always made biscuits and homemade gravy. My Daddy always made pancakes and pork sausage. My Mom always made eggs and bacon. Oh...my mouth is watering! Thanks for taking me down memory lane. I hope you have a great weekend! :)
I also have lots of food memories from childhood- breakfasts, holidays, sick days home from school with Grandma...
We just ate a delicious breakfast of blueberry pancakes. We eat these once a week on either Saturday or Sunday. It's been so nice to have fresh wild blueberries this summer, but I'm afraid this might have been the last week for them. We'll carry on with frozen blueberries, which still make for some pretty tasty pancakes. :o)
YUMMY! If I didn't already have supper in the oven (pork sausages and chips/ French fries), I'd be making pancakes.
You're the second person to mention pancakes today - Claudia who I mentioned in the post I've just written is the other person - so I think I may just whip up a few for the babies tomorrow. I don't need much of an excuse actually. Our pancakes are more like crepes; we call what you call pancakes "flapjacks" LOL
Hope you have a LOVELY weekend, eating lots of yummy things!
Yum! My granny made the best homemade cinnamon rolls! GOSH I MISS HER!
This morning I made my three pack bacon, eggs, and honey biscuits! They sopped it up!
I'm not the best pancake maker, but Hubby is. Unfortunately his new work schedule has interrupted our Sunday pancake breakfasts. I'm hoping his shift will change soon so we can go back to enjoy lazy Sunday mornings together!
Gotta love bacon and eggs for brekky. Your family traditions remind me that you are indeed a Southern girl. Must remember to put the accent in when I read your posts :)
mmmm....all sound so good. especially since it is sunday am and i am hungry for breakfast, lol.
we gave the kids a pancake over vacation and they loved it (no syrup, of course :) ). we have not done it again yet....but i think it is the start of our big, weekend, family breakfasts. :)
my husband does the big breakfasts in our house - I love it when he takes over and the kids love it to - it also make sure he keeps his kitchen skills up! Naomi.
