Fab 5 Friday...and ME!

By some accounts it’s been a pretty un-fabulous week, as Baby A has had the flu…but there’s still been plenty of fabulousness to even it all out…

1) We have a resident bunny in the backyard that we have been able to spy several afternoons this week. The girls lined up some of their plastic vegetables – like a lettuce leaf and a carrot – on the windowsill in case the bunny got hungry.

2) The girls have learned their days of the week! They are pretty good with Monday through Thursday. It usually takes a little prompting to get the other days, “What day comes after Thursday?” but they can eventually get Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, too!

3) I gave the girls a couple of washcloths to use as “potholders” in their kitchen. They serve as potholders, and diapers for their babies, to name a few uses. A couple of times I observed Baby A wiping surfaces – like the couch – saying, “Clean it!” I love that child!

4) Completely unsolicited, Baby A has told B a couple of times, “Love you, [Baby B]!” Melt.my.heart.

5) The girls have started to name their stuffed animals. I think it’s so cute to see them distinguish between identical puppies, for example. One is Snoopy, and one is Sammy…and ne’er the twain shall meet.

And what did I do for ME this week?

I have a pretty steadfast rule that I finish books once I start them. I will confess that I bought this particular book – about the different cultures within rural India – a full 14 years ago. I’ve read the first chapter several times, but I have never been able to continue. (It’s very interesting, but not exactly a page-turner.)

I set out a few weeks ago to read the book, once and for all. I’m about 2/3 of the way through it…but…I got the new John Grisham book for Christmas. I could stand looking at its shiny, untouched cover no longer. I set the Indian account aside (temporarily, I swear!) and dug into the Grisham novel.

Aaahhh…the beautiful sound of pages turning at a rapid pace! It may be a stretch to most to think of this as a guilty pleasure, but it sure feels like one to me! :)

Thanks for making me feel better about my book compulsion. I have to read all of a book once I start too! I still feel a twinge of guilt when I think about the only two books I've ever started and not finished. --M.

I have an equivalent book to your Indian one, Soul Mountain. I have started and started it but I just can't get into it. I will though. It has won literary prizes and I just know the penny will drop at some point (but not in the first 30 pages I assure you!).

A&B are cuter and cleverer than ever! 'Love you' - too sweet for words huh? And those plastic vegetables. *sigh*

Ahhh...a good book!

How are your girls so freaking smart? I'm so jealous...Matt just started saying his ABC's, but he skips like the first half of the alphabet...and we still praise him for it!

I can't fall asleep at night unless I read. Given how poorly my twins sleep, I totally GET what a treat reading is. Hope you enjoy your book!

So cute that they're leaving out play food for the resident bunny. Our kitchen table is right up against some windows overlooking our back yard, and Tiny and Buba love to offer up bits of their meals to the squirrels they see climbing in the trees. The food is often inappropriate for a squirrel- mac and cheese, meatballs, peaches, etc.- but they love to hold out their utensil with a bit of food on it and say, "Squirrel! Want a bite?" :o)

I'm glad you're able to get in some good reading time, and that you've got a book you're really enjoying. I am once again trying to push myself through another book club book that I (so far) am not loving. I may need to find another book club.

Oh, is the John Grisham book good? I have been wanting to read it...it's been awhile since I read something of his. I totally count reading time as earned ME time too! : )

I caught my girls hugging unprompted the other night, and I think it was one of the sweetest things I've ever seen!

Reading is definitely me time - now, Mandy, listen to me...carefully.

Life is too short to read boring books.

Seriously, I made that decision when I was having laparoscopy 2 and it has been one of the best decisions ever.

TOss the Indian book !!!

And now, I'm off to get some of that me time too :)

Have a nice weekend

I hope A is starting to feel better! Love the girls are telling each other love you. As a mother I love seeing Molly and Luke kiss and hug each other. I am sure you got that by all the pics I take of them in the act.

Great ME time...I love myself a good book. It has to be a page turner or I loss interest.

Have a great weekend!

I love a good novel! I haven't read any fiction in a while, that's a really good idea.
It's so cute that the girls tried to feed the bunny! Love it!
Thank you for linking up!

oh! hope your sweet girl is feeling better and your other sweetie stays healthy!

I know its so hard to resist a new book! I have just gotten back into one that I've started 3 times in the last year, only to put it down for something new/better. I'm determined to finish it this time and am about 1/3-1/2 way through now!

Good for you Mandy. I wish I was more of a reader. I have tons of books but I've never been an avid reader.
