It's the Little Things

We had such a fun afternoon on Saturday.

We didn’t do anything really spectacular…we didn’t visit the zoo or go to a show or tour the botanical gardens.

No, we took the girls to story time at the local bookstore.

The story was far too old for the girls…we sat to the teller’s right side, so we couldn’t even see the pictures…and the poor teller didn’t seem to have ever read the book before (I’m just guessing as she mispronounced quite a few words!)…

…but the girls had a blast.

Before story time began, we walked around the children’s section and pointed out all the animals and farms and trees and babies and girls and boys on the fronts of the books on display. The girls enjoyed seeing several other kids. And they got to sit on tiny little benches made just for people their size.

And after story time, the four of us split a Reese’s peanut butter cup cookie in the bookstore’s café. (And fortunately the girls didn’t realize it wasn’t an even split!)

As the four of us walked out of the bookstore, hand in hand, I so enjoyed seeing our long shadows in front of us.

It was just a really sweet reminder that it’s the little things…sharing an ooey-gooey cookie, seeing our family – complete – in silhouette, and delighting in the girls’ delight…that it’s all about.

Amen! (and no worries, when three of us split the B&N cookies, I always got 1/2, our twins each got a 1/4. I'm more than twice as big! ;) )

Wonderful picture of clearly a wonderful day.

What a perfect visual of the shadows!

Love it!

I had a moment like that when we were eating out (weeks ago) and we were all just enjoying a toasted sandwich!!!

Life is about the small moments :)

This is such a sweet post and a good reminder that it's the simple things in life that make you happy.

The kids and I love playing shadow tag, where on a super sunny day we chase each other and try to step on each other's shadows. I could be having the worst day and then we'll play a game of shadow tag and suddenly I find myself laughing hysterically!!!

Sounds like a lovely way to spend a Saturday afternoon. Too bad the actual story time part wasn't ideal. Does your library have story time for toddlers? Ours has several and they're each designed for a specific age group, so the stories are always appropriate for the kids who come at that time. My kids will start up their second year of story time next month and they can't wait. They're already signing the song every time we pass the library, "We're gonna sit down, turn around, read a book together.."
