A Bit About Me, January Edition

My birthday is February 23, and on the 23rd of each month, I share a couple of random things about myself.  I missed doing this last month…but it was two days before Christmas…and I just couldn’t peel myself away from holiday preparations to think about otherwise random things!  I’m making up for it this month with FOUR bits of randomness!

I love Earl Grey tea.

A year or so ago a tea shop opened on our downtown square.  It’s just across the way from the girls’ school, and when I finish my errands a bit early, with not enough time to go home, I like to go and enjoy a hot cup of tea.  The tea shop has over 40 varieties of loose-leaf tea…but I stick very close to my Earl Grey roots.  I feel like I should branch out more, but they make The Best Cup of Earl Grey…it’s hard to tear myself away!

No more soda for me!

After seeing a friend of mine (who is a nurse practitioner) compare soda to cigarettes, I couldn’t shake that revolting thought from my mind.  I swore off soda on January 14, and I’m 10 days “sober” today!  While I can’t say I’ll never indulge in an occasional root beer or ginger ale, no more mid-afternoon Diet Dr. Pepper for me.  Still the mere thought disgusts me…let’s hope it stays that way!

I love Valentine’s Day!

Cynics say it’s a Hallmark holiday, invented to sell candy and cards, but I don’t care.  I remember being so excited to trade the little penny cards with my friends in elementary school…and I’m so super excited to make red and pink heart crafts with my girlies.  I’ll admit, though, that I haven’t sprung into Valentine Mode just yet…this mama needed a little break from the holidays after the Halloween / Thanksgiving / Christmas / New Year’s / birthday celebration train.

I just can't do hats.

I see all these cute “going to the gym” mamas buzzing around town, looking absolutely adorable in their ball caps and ponytails.  I see all these glamorous mamas in their sun hats (at least in other people’s photos and on Pinterest).  And I see these stylish beanie hats and berets in the fashion magazines.  I just can’t do it.  I do wear a ball cap when I go for a walk on a sunny day…but I think it makes me walk / run faster, motivated to get home quickly to free my head.  I will wear a sun hat if I have to, but I’d rather just hang in the shade.  I don’t know what it is, but my head needs to breathe, I guess!

Told ya...random!!!

LOVE the hats one :)

I love hats - the only thing is there's not much of a reason to wear them otherwise I'd have more. I actually decluttered some lovely winter caps over Dec when I went WILD organising the house!

And... I also love earl grey tea. I love it more because it reminds me of two people I'm verrrrry fond of (now three ;)). The one is in London, one in Australia (lady I worked with who used to bring her daughter into the office sometimes on her way to some appts and when I offered her something to eat/ drink, this 8-year-old would say, "only if you have Earl Grey" :))

My head was not made for hats; hats that look chic on the neighbour just give me a geeky, martian look.

And yes, I do love my earl grey. I keep a stash on my desk in the office just in case they run out in the coffee room

Hi Mandy!!! I didn't recognize your name when you swung (not a word I know) by the site but didn't recognize the name! I love your blog and have been here before.
I LOVE that you do this on your birthday date each month! SO FUN!!! I can't do hats and congrats on 10 days sober! hahaha Too funny but glad you are making healthy sets forward.
My girlfriend is addicted to diet coke and I would love to have that comparison to share with her.
And I love V-day love love love and love even more now that I have twins!!!

I really can not drink Earl grey tea- my aunt loves the stuff but the oil in it makes me caugh all the time. Maybe a bit of an allergic reaction? And here we can not get away without sun hats
