I know I haven't changed a bit in the past 6 months...or 6 years, for that matter! (if wishes were dreams...)...but there's certainly a huge difference between a 6-month old and a 12-month old.
Given that, coupled with the girls' birthday falling on January 5th, so close after the holiday season, I decided that we would adopt the "1/2 birthday" celebration into our family.
On July 5, 2009, I made the girls each 1/2 of a birthday cake. The poor lovies couldn't actually enjoy the cake themselves, but I had so much fun dressing them up and making 150 or so pictures.
On July 5 of this year, I again dressed the girls up and took a crazy number of pictures, and they were able to partake in the sugar-fest, too.
This is a tradition we plan to continue every year. It hasn't to date and won't in the future include presents or a party beyond our little foursome, but I hope it will be an opportunity to do something special and fun in the middle of the summer.
And Momma is always looking for an excuse to make - and eat! - some cake. Hey, it keeps me from aging.

Oh, what a cute tradition! I love those 1/2 cakes. And hmmmm - I might have to subscribe to this anti-aging theory of yours. :-)
I love this! Mmmmm...cake!
What a great idea! My sister's birthday and mine are 6 months (and 10 years) apart, so we always made mention of half-birthdays. My girls' half-birthday is two days before my sister's birthday!
What a darling idea!! And .. something to look forward to every year. It's not the presents or the big party, it's the tradition and kiddos love tradition. Thanks for sharing!
Those half cakes are adorable! I had a friend whose birthday was mid-December, so she always celebrated her half-birthday rather than her birthday. It's a great way to not get lost in the chaos of the holidays.
how fun. and those cakes last year were the cutest! also...look how much your HAIR grew in a year :)
maybe we'll have to do that for the kids 18 month birthdays. their birthday is in september....so it might be a fun way to break up the winter blahs around here :)
I love half birthdays! We celebrate them too, with a "favorite foods" dinner and special dessert! Half birthday's are great!
I love the 1/2 cakes, I might try to make them with my girls! Great idea.
We did a half birthday this year (our twins have a Christmas Day birthday). It was lots of fun! I wish their cake looked like yours do though. Bake envy!
Those half birthday cakes were so cute! And the dresses are adorable too. Happy half birthday to Baby A and Baby B! :o)
Aww, cute!!! :)
