Digging through the Archives

My computer is in the shop for a little TLC.  I thought it would be a super-quick clean up, which has been done before while I stood there breathing down the Geek's neck, but this time they said my computer needed a little R&R.

I resigned myself to no internet for a couple of days.  (That's an unfortunate side-effect of my bargain basement cell phone from 1999, I might add.)

Then...I remembered...Hubby has a computer!  He claimed my old laptop and uses it from time to time, mostly to look at car stuff and soccer stuff.

Now...where to find said Old Laptop in the New House???

I located it pretty easily...and after a 24-hour hiatus from online, I'm back in touch with the real world...at least here and there.

I had planned to write a post today with a picture I took yesterday morning...but I'm not going to go through the trouble to download the picture to this computer...and then turn around and download it to my computer in a day or so.

Hmmm...what to do???

I decided instead to take a stroll down Memory Lane and look at the last batch of pictures on this computer...from July 2012.

So, I think this is two posts in a row where I'm lamenting my BABIES...but look how tiny they were!!!  It's incredible to see those round baby faces and fine baby hair.

Sniff, sniff and big smiles...hanging on and enjoying this ride!

Hook, Line, and Pin-ker

It was probably inevitable.

I could only resist it for so long.

The pull was so strong, the lure of the unknown, so tantalizing.

I have officially succumbed to Pinterest.

"Welcome to the vortex," said Julia, when I made my Facebook confession.

I have technically been on Pinterest for quite a while. I solicited an invitation (thanks, Rebecca!), and set up an account.

But there was a little voice in the back of my head saying, "Don't do it! Don't go there! You might get lost and never see the light of day again!"

In the same way that I just don't buy candy [most of the time]...as I have very little willpower, I kept myself off Pinterest, fearing a[nother] time drain.

I have been on for about a week, and so far, so good. To date I have 10 boards and 55 pins. I'm pinning only things I actually think I can do, like crafts with the girls, fun things in the kitchen, and recipes that I actually "approve" of the ingredients.

I don't feel like this is a "time suck"...maybe because my Facebook time is more limited these days, so overall it's a wash.

I think the bigger test will be, how many of my pins do I actually act upon.

So far, the only one I've executed are these yogurt drops...


...they were a huge hit as part of a "very special snack". [It's a long story, but our girls don't eat yogurt, so they were over the moon with 6 or 8 "drops".]

And I have plans over the next couple of days for some St. Patrick's Day-inspired fun in the kitchen and at the craft table.

Like most anything else, I think Pinterest will be a lot of fun for me...as long as I enjoy it in moderation. [Similarly, jelly beans are OK, as long as I don't eat a family-size bag in one sitting. Ahem.]

I'm BAAAAAAAACK!!!

Whoa.

I don’t think I’ve ever gone almost a WEEK without a blog post…and while that may sound a bit sad to some, I have to say I’ve missed it…that, and the whole connection-to-the-outside-world that is affectionately called The Internet.

We took our first mini-vacation as a family of four this week. I had planned to take our computer in for some deluxe spa treatment while we were gone, but she got a little ahead of herself and decided to go on vacation [i.e. completely spaz out] before I even had a chance to schedule some blog posts / write an out-of-office message / check the week’s weather / print directions to our hotel / pay bills (!!!).

I’m a bit “2002” in my approach to the online world, so alls I have is this here laptop.

My friends like to tease me that I have a drug dealer phone. Yes, it’s a prepaid little number that looks like the cell phone I had in 1997, but it is one way we cut costs after the girlies were born. It doesn’t have a touch screen, or internet access…but on a positive note, I did learn how to send a text message over the past week.

We got back into town yesterday afternoon, and I was looking forward to installing our new router and re-learning how to type.

But…as luck would have it…we had a big storm which knocked out power for more than two hours! I was beginning to think there was some kind of vast, intergalactic conspiracy to keep me from my Google account.

After the girlies went to bed, I summoned my Computer Science 101 skills from 16 years ago and set out to install our new router.

After 117 trips up and down the steps and some quality time spent with the customer service representative, I finally saw that little flicker in the bottom right-hand corner of my laptop screen…and my heart flickered, too.

I’ve missed you, Blogworld! I’m ready to Tweet, fellow Twitterers! And I’m gonna pay my bill today, AT&T!

The Kentucky Hat Dance

I am laughing at myself because I was just itching from not having updated my blog in a couple of days. I decided to grab a quick picture from the month of April so I could at least have a little eye candy. (This was a picture I took of the girls playing with their new hats...they were having quite a romp around the den.)

Actually, I was without internet service for most of the last 48 hours, following the storms on Saturday. It was a nice break in a way...but I also realized how much I have come to rely on the World Wide Web.

Yes, it serves as my daytime connection to the outside world a lot of days (save for looking out the window into the backyard with the girlies). Fortunately half of the "break" was over the weekend, so Hubby was here to help keep me from exclusively talking in exaggerated sentences.

But I felt paralyzed in a few other ways...I needed to go grocery shopping, but I was unable to check the weather to see if the radar would be clear for the next hour or so.

I needed to pay some bills, but I'm all set up for online banking, and I wasn't about to hunt for a book of stamps.

Finally I decided I would go ahead and make some meatballs, but my recipe was in my recipe box...online.

At the end of my 48-hour hiatus, I had gotten a lot of filing done, which at least makes my computer desk cleaner. :)
